Description

Privacy Cell reports that my cell phone is connected to LTE-4G voice and data networks using insecure protocols and thus subject to stingray mitm attacks. Are not all carrier networks insecure in this way? Is there a way to select a secure network or otherwise secure my calls over cellular networks?

Many network are still using LTE (or even older protocols) even though they are not secure. Switching to 5G involves installing new radios on cell phone towers, which is expensive.

In Privacy Cell, if you tap on any of the protocols on the screen it will give you some more information about it. From a security perspective, nothing below 5G NR SA (5G New Radio Standalone) is secure, and even that probably has security flaws that have not yet been found or might have already been found but not made public.
