Alternatively, a different SearX public instance could be used. List is here: https://github.com/asciimoo/searx/wiki/Searx-instances and regularly updated health report is here: http://stats.searx.oe5tpo.com/
I haven't done any sort of comparison on the various public instances yet, so perhaps there is one that has better performance than searx.me.

You'll be happy to know that due to a request from another user, searx.me was added earlier in this cycle. https://git.stoutner.com/?p=PrivacyBrowser.git;a=commitdiff;h=f0bd4776ebb80b72cda359797823f97bf95600f0. It will be included in the next release (Privacy Browser 2.5).
