This feature would be somewhat similar to what is offered by the Tint browser.

Keeping the list of localized search engines up-to-date might require a fair amount of effort.

I think I am unlikely to implement this. Shipping a comprehensive list of localized search engines would be an overwhelming task. And, using a web service to populate the list, like the Tint browser, discloses too much private information to a third party.
