Can you consider the lite version?

It's amazingly fast (even faster than google with gbv=1).
Works without script. The interface is very lightweight. The home page is just 33kB (with DDG logo & searchbox). The only downside is no categorization like images, news, etc.

I can't find your blogpost to know your requirements for adding a search engine btw.

I can understand that DDG Lite fails only in one aspect, which is the lack of image results. But is that really necessary ?

Yes, that is one of the requirements. There are enough search engines that do provide usable image results without JavaScript that there is no need to include any search engine that cannot on the default list.
