Thank you for the detailed bug report.

The problem ends up being that the transition to SwitchPreferenceCompat (https://redmine.stoutner.com/issues/759) wasn't fully implemented. This caused the app to crash if it tried to set a default value on a new preference. As no preferences were added in 3.12 this didn't cause any problems for upgrades from 3.11. But if a user was upgrading from 3.10.1 or older, or if they cleared their data, or if they did a fresh install then the app would crash on every load.

I will issue an emergency release shortly to fix this problem.
