Rethinking this idea, we can probably switch to using the CSS injection method employed in night mode to achieve the same results.

For some reason the CSS injection method didn't work. Possibly because it was done in a fragment before it was displayed. So instead, separate assets have been created for the light and dark themes that reference two CSS files that set the attributes according to the theme.
