Monocles Rate Limited Image Search.png (2.21 MB) Monocles Rate Limited Image Search.png | Soren Stoutner, 06/30/2021 07:44 PM |
My biggest concern is that, as a customized Searx instance, it will fall prey to the same rate limiting that other Searx instances have struggled with.

The image search on Monocles does not work with JavaScript disabled. And, when JavaScript is enabled, by default it returns an unacceptable amount of inappropriate images because several image engines that don't support safe search are enabled by default.
The unacceptable image problem has been addressed by Arne, and it seems I was incorrect about image searches not working with JavaScript disabled. Probably a user error on my part.
The biggest problem with Monocles is that, when under load, it is rate limited by upstream search engines, just like every other Searx instance I have used. For example, see the attached screenshot, where a number of the images were not populated because they were rate limited.
Currently I think Mojeek best meets Privacy Browser's criteria.
