Third-party cookies are always disabled in Privacy Browser and have been since the 3.8 release.

Google's Android WebView enables and disables first-party cookies on an app level, rather than on an individual WebView level. Hence, when first-party cookies are enabled, they are enabled for all the WebViews (tabs) and when they are disabled they are disabled for all the WebViews in the app. See https://redmine.stoutner.com/issues/409.

OK so if I'm reading this correctly, it means that as long as you stay on the same tab, cookies will be set or unset according to the domain settings, which can be overridden by the global cookie setting.

No. Unfortunately, the way it works (and the way it will have to work until the release of Privacy WebView in the 4.x series) is that when you turn cookies on for one tab it turns them on for all the tabs and when you turn cookies off for one tab it turns them off for all the tabs. As Google currently has it designed, cookies are an app-wide setting, so they are either on or off for the whole app.

Another way of saying this is that the cookie settings for whichever tab is visible controls the cookie settings for all the other tabs.

But limiting oneself to using only one tab will respect the domain settings?

Correct. If you only have one tab open then this misbehavior will not affect you.
