Privacy Browser Proxy

Privacy Browser –

Branching from OP

https://redmine.stoutner.com/boards/1/topics/95?r=96#message-96

Me:Second, http proxy on youtube when attempting to view a video show invalid url.

Soren:That is likely a question for whoever you are using as a proxy.

Me in OP: Maybe so, i shall also add the sites on the web sre selectively accessible with the same error.

Not connected in any way that would resolve the issue logically.

I also add, i have yet to find a browser yet that supports proxy anymore on the app level.

See a reply to my brother following:

I finally installed squid cache for web proxy, only to find the only browser supporting it is privacy browser from f-droid package manager on android.

chrome edge, and even brave disable proxy support, Lol.

System proxy has dns leakage, and tends to be dirty. Even so wifi is only supported, not internet over mobile.

This is why i don't use them, they are corrupt.

A lot of websites like to prevent proxied HTTP traffic. Once Privacy Browser hands the request off to the proxy, it is up to the proxy and the website to decide if they can agree on data transfer between themselves. Sometimes web servers do not like the IP address the proxy is using (this happens from time to time when proxying through Tor). Sometimes web servers do not like the SSL or other security settings of the proxy, especially if they are using old SSL standards or cipher suites. In all cases, Privacy Browser does not have any visibility into why the traffic is blocked, nor does it have any way to fix whatever the problem is (assuming that JavaScript and other similar settings are set the same as required to access the website without going through a proxy).

If you contact the developer of the proxy, they might be able to help you figure out what the core problem is, as well as suggest any tweaks you might make to the proxy service that would make the website happy.

The ip is just a random ip from vultr cloud.

I have yet to setup lets encrypt w ssl, sol maybe something to do with it.

Might be another issue, other than that missing ssl and a dirty ip, i have no idea.

Will keep looking.
But firefox not supporting in app http proxy? Very strange decision.

Thanks for the tips.

Yeah, it is a shame that many mobile browsers do not support proxying (either HTTP or SOCKS).

Lightning does support HTTP proxying. You can use it for testing. If it works with Lightning but not with Privacy Browser then there is probably something I can do on my end to fix it.

It's not just mobile, desktop too!

BTW, something glitchy with your password reset. Since I couldn't do so...

I was able to re-register in your forum without any checks or red flags using the exact same info.

I believe it may be a security issue.

What glitch did you receive when trying to reset your password?

Re-registering with the same email address is functionally equivalent to resetting your password, so I am not sure I would consider it a security issue. If anything, it is a privacy feature, as that way someone cannot use the create a new account process to determine if an email address is already registered on the server.
